Proudly Presenting Bastian Casaretto, Hair Artist
He’s been cutting hair since the tender age of 11. He’s had an illustrious career training and working with the best in the business. He’s currently a leading light (and artistic director) at Aveda. He’s in constant demand for photo shoots and session work but still finds time to spend in the salon.
It’s fair to say that Bastian Casaretto is the ultimate hair artist. Which is why it gives us particular pleasure to showcase 5 of his inspirational tutorials, all aimed at intermediate-level stylists. Read on for all the details.
Tutorial 1 – Master the low layered bob
Our first featured Bastian Casaretto tutorial is the low layered bob. Ideal for intermediate-level stylists, take it and you’ll be ready to give your clients the ultimate in fiesta chic!
With Bastian’s expert on everything from disconnection and elevation to layering and over-direction, you’ll learn how to create a structured cut with a whimsical look. A brilliant addition to your bob repertoire.
Tutorial 2 – Get to grips with the round layered variation
Take our second Bastian tutorial – the round layered variation – and you’ll possess the power to create crisp and simple elegance.
Beginning with an A-line outline, hair artist Bastian demonstrates how to graduate the outline using elevation to start the internal shape. Next, you’ll layer the mid-section in the back and side, making sure you maintain a softer line towards the face. Finally, place a low eye-line fringe to add contrast to the soft framing lengths of the perimeter.
Tutorial 3 – Complete the concave triangular layered haircut
How’s your concave triangular layering technique? It’s a brilliant one to add to your repertoire, as it gives you the ability to channel your clients’ inner punk!
Demonstrating this cut in tutorial 3, Bastian tutorial features pointers on reducing weight, over-direction and pivoting sections. Again just right for intermediate-level stylists, the end result delivers interplay of disparate lengths combined with liberating texture, designed to slim the silhouette.
Tutorial 4 – Create the internal layered bob
Looking for ways to enhance your repertoire with a crowd-pleasing salon classic? Then our fourth featured Bastian Casaretto tutorial – the internal layered bob – is the right option for you.
Beginning with the internal crown area, Bastian demonstrates how to use graduation to support the outline, working over-direction into the sides to create the A-line shape. You’ll then learn how to place a strong fringe on the bridge of the nose, opening up the cheek area. Ultimately, you’ll produce a strong shape and a versatile style to suit all clients.
Tutorial 5 – Embrace the fishtail front bun
We wanted to give you a true sense of Bastian’s artistry, which is why we decided – for your final tutorial – to shift our focus to his incredible hair-up skills.
With pointers on blow drying, ponytail placement, fishtail braiding and the placement of weft pieces, Bastian shows you how to complete a fishtail front bun. Undeniably modern and intrinsically romantic, this look also harps back to the Renaissance times. An appropriately flamboyant way to finish our whistle stop tour of Bastian’s talents.
