Introducing Our New Global Ambassador: Edward Hemmings
This week, we’re celebrating at MHD HQ. Why you ask? Because the illustrious talent that is Edward Hemmings, of Alan d Hairdressing Education, has joined us as a global ambassador. Welcome onboard Edward!
To mark this auspicious occasion, we chatted to Edward to find out more about him – and to discover why he’s excited to join us on our quest to spread outstanding education throughout the hairdressing and barbering world.
Some facts about Edward
First things first. A surprising fact about Edward. Before he launched his hairdressing career back in 1992, he used to be a banker! ‘It didn’t last long,’ he jokes.
Since then he’s been making an impact as an educator and a voice for the industry, with numerous appearances on multiple media channels. He’s particularly passionate about apprenticeship schemes, which – if you’re a regular reader of the blog – you’ll know is also something we also feel strongly about.
Currently, Edward is Creative Director and Director of Education at Alan d. He also heads up the Business Education Programme at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing.
What Edward thinks about us
We’re feeling festive anyway. But the confirmation that Edward is joining us as a global ambassador has definitely added a bit of extra Christmas sparkle to our mood. Given his commitment to innovation in hairdressing education, he’s a natural fit for us.
Luckily, Edward’s excited too! ‘I’m looking forward to spreading the word about MHD’s unique platform and technological innovations,’ he enthuses. ‘It’s vital to ensure that we innovate to meet the training needs of future generations of hairdressers and barbers.’
Edward & playlist
On that subject, we’ve just launched out pioneering playlist technology. (More about that here, in case you’ve missed it.) Given that it enables members to use our tutorials to create bespoke learning pathways, it’s a big thing for educators and salons across the industry – and something that Edward will be shouting about in the months to come.
Edward’s already piloted playlists at Alan d – and he’s a big fan! ‘Playlist supports in-salon training and reinforces techniques learned in an off-the-job environment. Early signs clearly indicate that the impact on end-point assessment results will be incredible.’ Glad to hear it, Edward!
A few last words from Edward
You’ll be hearing lots more from Edward in 2019, as he gets into his role and starts sharing the love for MHD and playlist to a wider audience.
But in the meantime, a few last words from him: ‘I love playlist! It’s a privilege to be an advocate for this incredible technology and I’m excited to see the impact it will inevitably have on industry educators and salons.’
