Tutorial 1 – Correcting highlights step by step

Our first featured Charmaine tutorial focuses on correcting highlights.
In this intermediate-level lesson, Charmaine demonstrates this technique on a half a head – but with different sectioning you can adapt it to a whole head. Watch the tutorial for tips on foil highlight technique and placement – as well as slice and weaving technique.
The stunning natural look that Charmaine creates – seamlessly blending golden brown and light blonde tones – will delight your clients, especially during these warmer months.
Tutorial 2 – The balayage variation for dark hair

Balayage is a buzz word of the hair colouring world – but have you added the dark hair variation to your repertoire? If not, then it’s definitely time to update your skills with our second tutorial.
Beginning in the underneath panel using horizontal sections, Charmaine demonstrates the freehand technique for placing colour. Use your fingers to diffuse and spread the ash and gold-brown tones, then work a third colour into the round of the head.
You (and your grateful clients) will be rewarded with sun-kissed tresses on a dark base.
Tutorial 3 – Soft velvet colour

Want to surprise and delight clients with soft, luxurious velvety tones? Then our third featured tutorial is for you.
Ideal if you’re already an experienced at colouring hair, Charmaine Piche shows you how to start with a pre-lightened section running parallel to the parting, before utilising the basic tint technique to apply a purple-toned base colour to the remaining hair.
After that, you’ll get to grips with the slicing technique to alternate blue violet, violet cyclamen and violet in the pre-lightened top section, ensuring even coverage and saturation.
Your clients will be raving about the luxurious, soft velvet end result.
Tutorial 4 – Dark-on-dark two tone colour

Here at MHD, we’re huge fans of the vibrancy of the dark-on-dark two tone colour Charmaine demonstrates in our fourth featured tutorial – again appropriate if you’re a colourist with quite a bit of experience under your belt.
Designed to enhance the 5-point haircut (don’t forget to check that out too!), learn how to add a level 4 red/violet tone on the underneath section to define the disconnected area, before applying the dark tone to the top area to strengthen the fringe. Finally, add a vibrant red and pure violet to the right hand side point area.
Tutorial 5 – Advanced Perm Technique

So far, it’s been all about Charmaine’s colouring expertise, but we’re delighted to showcase her perming skills in our final featured tutorial – where she uses a variety of sizes and techniques to accommodate shape and texture.
Charmaine begins with a traditional perming technique in the nape before demonstrating a stack perm and double wind technique in the mid area, back and sides. Finally, she uses setting rollers for the top of the hair, which she divides into 2 triangle sections either side of the parting.
