The Bob haircut which became synonymous for modern women in the 1920s and 1960s, is making its comeback once again.

According to legend, The Bob was invented in 1909 in Paris by the hairdresser Antoine, who was inspired by Joan of Arc. It quickly spread across the channel making its first appearance in the UK through the Bloomsbury circles at the end of the First World War. The Bob was made widely popular in the 20s by flappers and silent movie stars like Louise Brooks and Clara Bow, and soon became the sign of a liberated woman throughout the world.  

Following longer and softer hairstyles through the 1940s and 1950s, it gained a resurgence in the 1960’s after Vidal Sassoon made it his trademark look and produced variations worn by 60s pop stars and models, coinciding with the arrival of The Beatles' mop top haircuts.  

Recently everyone from Posh Spice Victoria Beckham to Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction and Keira Knightly have sported Bobs as it’s a really sexy look that suits a lot of women, and is easy to maintain and keep looking great. There are many variations of the Bob, from the A-Line to the rounded, to the stepped and more. The shape can incorporate layering or graduation, or elements of both and can be precise and square or soft and loose.
