ONLINE HAIRDRESSING TRAINING AND EDUCATION FROM THE WORLD'S BEST HAIRDRESSERS

Feature - Stacey talks about his ScissorBoy Video

Text / Images by Jamie Harrison // Published Friday 11 March 2011

Last week MyHairDressers.com collaborated with US based ScissorBoy, who visited us to shoot two videos with Stacey Broughton in the MyHairDressers.com studios. In this interview Stacey tells us his thoughts of the shoot and his ideas behind the hair.

How was the day for you?

I thought it was brilliant today. It was very fluid and easy compared to what we normally do on MyHairDressers.com. I think because I was talking about the haircut as I was doing it, it was easier to do. We had more pace on the haircut, so it was really good.

What were the ideas behind the hair?

I wanted to do two looks: one that was very strong and graphic and one that was quite commercial and loose. So we’re trying to hit something people can do in the salon and something that was a bit more inspirational and fashion led.

Also the shorter one had more differences in technique, with a lot of elements to it: the graduation, the small step, the two level fringe, the line across and the one length piece. There were a lot of elements to make it work with the asymmetry. The other one has quite clever sectioning but uses very simple techniques, so it’s achievable for anyone in the salon. They can even leave it long or cut it short, it has a nice flexibility to it.

The short haircut follows the direction of the Big Country Collection. Is that the direction you’re still going?
That direction’s very strong, and still very evident in the fashion world, but once you’ve done something you want to move on, so doing something softer and prettier is a nice thing to do. I like the complement of strong and soft, it’s good to mix both elements together. That was the good thing about today - showing two opposites makes it more interesting.

How do you feel about ScissorBoy?

I think it’s quite an honour and a privilege to appear in anything really, especially something that’s on the internet and has such a big following.

This is the first time you’ve been in the new studios at MyHairDressers, what do you think of the new building?

It’s a lot better than what we had before isn’t it? Before, we were all on top of each other, now we have much more space. The greatest thing is the step in the new salon area that everybody falls down!

You’re coming back to shoot more hairdressing tutorials for MyHairDressers.com in a couple of weeks, how do feel about that?

Yeah, it’s always exciting. I’ve got a couple of haircuts planned, one is a tribute to Vidal Sassoon, which is going to be my version of a 5-point haircut. It’s not like the original … well it is, but it isn’t! I’ve got a beautiful girl already. I’ve got another girl lined up, who’s absolutely stunning and I’m not sure what I’m going to do, I’ll have to go through with the team to see how it’ll fit in with our criteria.

I’ve also got some headblocks to do and Monica from today is coming back and Charmaine’s going to put a bit of colour in her hair. It’s something really current and really good for the market called balayage. So we’re really going to be covering the bases.
