Charmaine Piche's salon basic colouring tutorial is a variation of the popular balayage technique and begins in the underneath panel using horizontal sections, placing the colour with a freehand technique. Then, using V-shaped sections, colour is placed to the underneath of the section near to the root / regrowth, then to the away from the root / regrowth, using fingers to diffuse and spread the colour. Charmaine applies ash colour first then goes back through her section and applies the second gold/brown tone.

A third colour is worked to the round of the head, then the three colours are worked in small horizontal sections to the parting. The fringe area is worked with freehand comb on colour vertically. The result is sun kissed tresses on a dark base achieved by strategic colour placement evocative of the exotic and well travelled.
