ONLINE HAIRDRESSING TRAINING AND EDUCATION FROM THE WORLD'S BEST HAIRDRESSERS

Release - Salon Basic Haircut

Text / Images by Jamie Harrison // Published Wednesday 11 January 2012

Stacey Broughton's salon basic tutorial is a commercial long layered technique. Stacey demonstrates two finished outcomes for this look – the first is a commercial finish ideal for both students and the salon, and the second a more creative finish for those seeking a stronger look.

Stacey begins with a vertical section in the back, slightly off-centre in line with the parting from crown to nape. From this section he pivots subsequent sections on both sides of the head cutting a high square shape. The elevation is dependant on the desired length, the amount of weight required on the perimeter and the hair texture and quality. Stacey continues with parallel sections towards the front hairline so the internal shape becomes progressively longer towards the front, due to the over-direction. Stacey places a perimeter shape in the front working with the parting and the internal layering to produce a commercial, salon oriented finish.

For the second option, Stacey demonstrates a stronger feel by working a clean defined edge following the contours of the face. The final result is a sleek, commercial long layered shape with a strong angled jaw line for a bolder alternative option.
