ONLINE HAIRDRESSING TRAINING AND EDUCATION FROM THE WORLD'S BEST HAIRDRESSERS

Feature - Increase Your Colour Business

Text/Images by Jamie Harrison // Published Friday 28 January 2011

Colour is a vital part of your salon business but clients suffering financial restraints are very likely to reduce their spending on colour rather than cutting. Don’t lose out on this lucrative and necessary salon revenue stream by following MyHairDressers.com’s simple five-step plan.

1. Don’t lose your clients to a cheaper salon, encourage them to try your less expensive junior staff for colour treatments. A senior technician could sit in for the consultation to advise. The junior technician will also gain invaluable experience.

2. Encourage you stylists to outline the benefits of professional colouring as they cut the clients hair. A bad home dye job could be subtly criticised, and lead the conversation on to your colouring services and how great the colourists are.

3. Provide a complete before and after care service for colouring. Make sure the client is aware of the products you recommend that keeps her colour in tip top condition and direct them to your retail counter. Maybe offer a free after care condition session the following week.

4. Men are becoming more open to colour and there are several dedicated products for the men’s market. Stock them and train your staff in men’s colouring techniques. Then let your clients know about it.

5. What’s your slowest day of the week? It’s probably early in the week or mid-week. How about offering a Discount Day? Give clients a 20% discount on Wednesdays for example – 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing!

Implement these simple steps in your salon today, or adapt them to your existing strategies. Visit our facebook page to let us know how successful they were, or share your own top tips with us.
