Free Bonus Release - How To Cope With Injury or Discomfort

Text by Diana Leake // Images by Jamie Harrison // Published Friday 30 March 2011

Hairdressers are at greater risk from muscle and joint pain than the general population. And musculoskeletal pain can affect your ability to work. So helping your body cope with the physical challenges of your job is in your interest.

As osteopaths we aim to do more than relieve pain – although that’s often the patient’s top priority! We also advise on exercise and lifestyle changes to prevent painful problems coming back. In the long term that can be just as important as our hands-on treatment.

In this video we have provided advice and demonstrated a number of simple exercises that may help to minimise the risk of pain or discomfort throughout your career as a hairdresser, or help you cope with discomfort. We have focussed on a few areas of the body where it has been reported that hairdressers may experience pain or discomfort and have included a number of different exercises for each area.

For each area there are exercises designed to get the joints moving, to stretch the muscles surrounding a joint and to strengthen the muscles in an area. We have also tried to include some simple exercises that can be done whilst at work, between clients. Doing the exercises regularly will help you stay flexible and avoid pain.

Need more help? Here’s £10 off your first appointment…

We hope this video helps you avoid the pain and discomfort that can be associated with hairdressing. If you do experience pain, it’s important to get your problem assessed by a healthcare professional.

Call us on 07732 006691 if you’d like to speak to one of our osteopaths or book an appointment. Quote MHD0412 to save £10 on your first appointment (usually £55). This offer is valid until 30 June 2012.
