Keep your clients happy by staying on top of the current and forthcoming trends. MyHairDressers.com’s contributing hairdressers always stay one step of the competition and have their finger on the pulse of fashion’s fickle trends. If they’re not setting the agenda in hairdressing, they’re reinterpreting it for us and their clients, so are the perfect go-to people to learn about what’s coming up this season.

We asked our contributors to tell us what hair they love, and to help you along, we’ll point you to a hairdressing tutorial that will show you how to achieve it.

Aveda’s Bastian Casaretto believes texture is where it’s at, with a natural glamour and finish, “Any magazine you open now, the hair has a natural glamour and doesn’t look like it’s set or styled too much, it’s more like it’s not been touched but still looks beautiful.”

Graham Oglseby of Stockport College agrees, “We're seeing a lot of texture and natural movement in hair. Hair shouldn't always be forced to do something it doesn't want to do; you should be working with the material."

For texture and movement watch:

Tim Hartley loves the impact that TV dramas such as Downton Abbey and Mad Men are having on hair, with retro influences featuring heavily, “It’s something very easy to translate in the hair world because it’s about simple hair using more traditional finishes to give it a slightly retro look and that seems to suit the mood of the time. Nostalgia is always comforting when you have problems within the economy.”

This look is also reflected in Nick Knight's recent shoot with Kate Moss on Show Studio, in which Kate sports a look that is similar to John Vial's Chelsea Blow Dry

Dale Ted Watkin’s shares Tim’s retro vision with his opinion of men’s hair trends, stating, “Ivy League is red hot right now. It’s very structured, very manly, Ivy League is super hot.”

For retro looks with a modern twist watch:

As the seasons change so do the colours, with last years ‘blondette’ and root-looks making way for rejuvenating tones.
Bruno Elorrioroz of Aveda likes the current crop of winter hues on dark hair, “Dark purple and aubergine, Bordeaux shades for darker hair, with maybe some subtle undertones of blue reflecting at the same time.”
He thinks lighter hair and blondes should be warmer, “It’s all about beautiful warm blondes, with darker shades to warmer shades - golds, reds and copper or a dark cappuccino, nutmeg blonde. The pale white, platinum shades are so over now.”

Tracey Sajno from Stockport College goes one step further, “Reds are obviously very big at the moment. But I think anything goes nowadays in terms of colour. I think romantic is back, lots of romance, very feminine with a bit of a twist.“

For Brunettes watch:

For Blondes watch:
