Release - Session Catwalk

Text and Images by Jamie Harrison // Published Tuesday 20 December 2011

Roy Hayward's session catwalk tutorial demonstrates a classic wet directional set, a traditional technique reinvented for modern high drama. The technique begins by first placing a natural left-hand side parting. Roy then starts the roller placement on the right-hand side of the parting in the front.

The hair is elevated 90 degrees and slightly over-directed back to create root drag for a softer blend through the parting areas. Roy then adds two more rows either side of the parting ensuring the flow of hair and curl is the same, which then drop vertically in the back areas to facilitate a dropped curl and eliminate roller marks. The hair is pulled slightly over 90 degrees following the contour of the head with the rollers sitting on their base.

Once dry, Roy uses a natural bristle brush on a cushion base and a tail comb to dress for a more editorial finish. The final result is instant red carpet glamour and haute couture campaign hair - dramatic and elegant.
