Release - Uniform Layer Blow Dry

Text and Images by Jamie Harrison // Published Tuesday 17 April 2011

Stacey Broughton’s blow-dry basic tutorial is a classic uniform layer blow-dry on a training head. He works with the shape, length and texture with hair of an equal length. This technique teaches you how to wrap dry using the head shape to understand how to control movement and root direction in a layered shape.

Stacey start from the front hairline using a flat bristle brush to ensure a clean natural finish to the root area with a parting. This area starts the process of moving the hair forwards and across. The section is diagonal so the hair can then be moved on the opposite side covering the parting to achieve a natural fall when working on both sides. Stacey changes hands to allow the forwards movement. Developing dexterity with both hands is essential in order to dry a shape evenly.

Stacey next works with the mid lengths and ends with a seven row, curved, rubber pad, anti-static, nylon quill brush which results in an even bodied, natural blow-dry of this salon classic shape.
