Graham Oglesby’s blow-dry basics tutorial is the first of college curriculum related blow-drying techniques. The model has a mid-length layered shape above the shoulders with a natural side parting. The hair has a slight bend and medium density.

Blow-drying is all about the control of the technique and thinking about the finished result , e.g. with root lift or without, with beveled ends or without. These choices are all governed by trend, but the technique of handling the brush, tension and hair always remains the same - this is key to great blow-drying.

Graham shows a number of techniques within the video including wrap drying to remove moisture; building the supporting shape in the outline; and smoothing down the cuticle throughout the internal shape with various sizes of round brushes, depending on the length of the hair.

With all the key areas in place, Graham delivers a smooth bevelled look with minimal root lift; enabling the hair to move naturally away from the face.
