Chris Appleton, is the team leader of The Crew, the BaByliss PRO stage team at Salon International and this year their collection, Style Notes, wowed the audience and showed how to create perfect curls and texture in the hair, key looks for this season.

Chris is based in George’s salon in Leicester but also works internationally as a session stylist, behind the scenes at fashion week and on-location shoots for renowned magazines. Here he tells us about a great look to try at home or on friends and clients who want something special for a Christmas party.  Chris used the BaByliss PRO Conical Wand, which was pioneered in the UK by the BaByliss Pro team and is still a firm favourite amongst students and top session stylists alike.

The Conical Wand gained its following from the functional, professional features such as, quick heat up time to 200 degrees and the added function of a ‘dial-a- heat’ temperature dial so you can choose the temperature from 25 settings to ensure you use the best one for the type of hair you are working with, and to enable you to create your perfect curl.

To create Chris’ ponytail follow these simple steps:

  • //Blow dry hair in the direction of the ponytail
  • //Take hair back and tie using an elastic just below the crown and in the centre of the head. This is a great place to wear a pony tail as it really lets the hair move
  • //Now split the pony tail in to two and take a small piece of hair from each section and spray with hairspray. Then wrap that piece of hair around the elastic.
  • //Repeat this on the other section and tie together using an elastic
  • //Using the Babyliss PRO large Conical Wand add a lose curl to the pony tail to give your hair that real Wow factor. The wand is really easy to use. You wind the hair around it unlike a tong which you have to wind with the hair. This means you have more control and there’s no line in the hair which you sometimes get with a regular tong. This is because the Conical Wand doesn’t have a spring clip (the bit on a tong which grips the hair.)

Chris and the team also created fabulous looks using Hot Sticks which were brought back due to popular demand. The easy to use Ceramic hot sticks give a unique curl finish to the hair plus the Ceramic technology gives the ultimate high shine finish. They are easy and quick to use with fast heat up and cool ends so there’s no danger of burnt fingers! These 20 Hot Sticks come in two sizes for versatile styling: 12 large and 8 medium and have a unique loop fastening design – it’s why they are a staple for session stylists and those working in a salon.
